Collection: Mattisson Basses
Mattisson Bass Guitars
Most luthiers talk about precision, but Anders Mattisson solved it.
He's been working out of Sweden since the late 1980s. In that time, he's done one thing: refining the bass guitar until there's nothing left to fix. Every neck joint, every fret slot, every pickup route : all of it is the result of obsessive iteration across thousands of instruments.
So who plays them? Henrik Linder of Dirty Loops, Janek Gwizdala, and a long list of professionals who don't advertise their gear choices. They all come for the same reason: absolute clarity from the lowest note to the highest harmonic.
True Temperament Frets
What sets Mattisson apart from virtually every other high-end builder is the integration of True Temperament frets. These are curved frets, invented by Swedish engineer Anders Thidell, that replace the straight frets found on every conventional bass.
How does it work? Each fret is mathematically optimised to deliver perfect intonation across the entire fretboard, and not just at the 12th fret, but everywhere. As a result, chords ring true. Harmonics lock in. And notes in the upper register that would normally drift sharp sit exactly where they should. Once you've heard it, standard fretting starts to sound like a rough draft. (It's kind of an exaggeration for marketing purposes, please don't sue me.)
Built in Sweden, by Design
Since 2022, Mattisson basses are built in True Temperament's factory in Trollhättan, Sweden. This collaboration was born from years of shared obsession with intonation accuracy. The result? A bass that combines Mattisson's design philosophy with the manufacturing precision of a purpose-built facility, all under Anders' direct supervision.
The Lineup
- HL-6 (Henrik Linder Signature) - The flagship. A 33” scale 6-string with True Temperament stainless steel frets and dual EMG 45TW pickups. The offset neck profile is designed for marathon sessions. Available in multiple finishes, this is the instrument that put Mattisson on the map for a new generation.
- JG Series (Janek Gwizdala Signature) - 32” scale, 28 frets, and a sound hole that gives it a voice somewhere between acoustic intimacy and electric authority. Built for a player whose technique demands total transparency.
- Series I - The foundation of the Mattisson line. Clean, focused, and available in 4, 5, or 6-string configurations.
- Series II & IV - Progressively more refined builds. These offer expanded options for tonewoods, electronics, and True Temperament fret integration.
