Collection: Spector Basses
Spector Bass Guitars
Spector basses have a way of ending the conversation. You can spend months comparing specs, watching demos and reading forums, or you can pick one up and feel the argument dissolve under your fingers. The curved body locks into your hip, the neck-through sustain fills the room, and that midrange, thick, focused and almost confrontational, sits in a band mix like it dares the guitarist to compete.
Stuart Spector started building basses in Brooklyn in 1976. A year later, fellow co-op member Ned Steinberger carved the first NS body, an ergonomic neck-through shape that became one of the most copied silhouettes in the industry. Copied, but never matched. When Sting slung a white NS-2 across The Police's 1983 Synchronicity tour the shape went global, and that exact bass now sits in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There is a reason every serious Spector player eventually comes back to the real thing.
We are the largest Spector dealer in Europe, and we carry the full ladder: the Indonesian-built NS line, the Czech-built Euro range, and the handmade USA models out of Woodstock, New York. Stock rotates constantly, and the limited editions rarely last long enough to gather dust.
The Spector range, entry to summit
| Range | Built in | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| NS Ethos / NS Dimension | Indonesia | The modern way in. Active electronics, aggressive looks, and multi-scale (fanned-fret) options on the Dimension for tighter low-B tension. Punches well above its price. |
| Euro: Classic, CST, RST, LX | Czech Republic | The heart of the line. Neck-through, figured tops, EMG pickups and an active preamp (Darkglass Tone Capsule among others, depending on the run). This is where the classic Spector growl lives. |
| USA: NS-2, NS-5 | Woodstock, NY | The summit. Hand-built, master-grade timber, the tightest tolerances Spector makes. Every cent shows up in the sustain and the finish. |
| Custom Shop & reissues: SB-1 50th, NS-2 Woodstock Era | USA | Anniversary runs and vintage-correct reissues of the models that started it all, including a 32" medium-scale NS-2. Collector pieces you can actually gig. |
Bass Freaks exclusive Euro runs. Here is something most dealers cannot offer: we regularly commission our own limited runs from Spector's Euro line. Exclusive finishes and spec combinations, built for us, in small batches, and available nowhere else. When a Bass Freaks exclusive lands it does not hang around, so if you see one in this collection, that is the whole run.
Signature models pass through too, with the Doug Wimbish Euro in stock now, and we can order in any of the others, Rex Brown, Ian Hill and beyond. We get allocations most European shops do not, so if you want a specific finish, string count or a model that is not currently on the site, just ask. If Spector makes it, we can get it.
Spector basses, frequently asked
What makes a Spector sound like a Spector?
Three things working together: neck-through-body construction, the carved NS body, and hot pickups feeding an active preamp (EMG on most Euro and USA models). The result is a focused, aggressive midrange, the growl, that cuts through a loud band without having to be loud itself. It is why so many rock and metal players never leave.
What is the difference between USA, Euro and NS Spectors?
Where and how they are built, not a different DNA. The NS line (Ethos, Dimension) is made in Indonesia and is the affordable entry point. The Euro line is made in the Czech Republic and delivers the classic neck-through voice at a working-musician price. The USA line is hand-built in Woodstock, New York, with the finest woods and the tightest tolerances. Same silhouette, three tiers of execution.
Who plays Spector?
A lot of heavy hitters. Rex Brown (Pantera), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Ian Hill (Judas Priest) and Doug Wimbish (Living Colour) all have Spector signatures. And it started at the top: Sting's white NS-2 on the Synchronicity tour is the bass that put the shape on the map.
Do Spectors come in 4, 5 and 6 string?
Yes. Four and five string are the core of the range, and six-string plus other configurations show up in the Euro and USA lines. Our stock is a rotating mix, so check what is live below.
Are Spectors only for metal?
No, that is a myth the growl earned. The same clarity that cuts through a wall of guitars also sits under fingerstyle funk, gospel and studio work. Plenty of Spector players never touch a distortion pedal. Versatile is the honest word.
Is there a short or medium scale Spector?
Yes. The NS-2 Woodstock Era runs a 32" medium scale, and the NS Dimension offers multi-scale (fanned-fret) versions. If you want something easier on the reach without losing the Spector voice, start there.
Can I get a Spector left-handed, or find a used one?
Left-handed models exist across the Euro and USA lines and we can order them in. For used and B-stock, watch this collection: we list them here when we have them, each one checked and set up in our own workshop.
