The X7 is the split-band idea from the Microtubes X, built out into a full preamp and DI. It divides your signal into low and high bands so the distortion hits the mids and highs while the low fundamentals stay firm and undistorted. That is how you get aggressive bass tone that still moves air.

Each band gets its own level, the low band adds compression and the high band its own drive, and a 4-band EQ plus sweepable low-pass and high-pass filters set the crossover exactly where you want it. Balanced direct out and parallel out send it to the desk and your rig at the same time.
